I fear though that people are piloting these 'Terrible Questionnaires' but either don't know why they're bad or are too focused on making the questionnaire fit their approach or their proposed analysis framework to see that they are cumbersome.

@Simon Shorter more targeted questionnaires would be a good step forward in the industry. Let's leave the long rambling questionnaires to omnibuses (I've heard some great ones that combines such odd subjects "thanks for your views on the next general election, and now I'd like to move on to think about biscuits"). And social rewards do make a huge difference - we actually pitched yesterday to a financial services firm on the basis of social incentives not monetary ones for their online research community. It's great to see buyers who are keen to experiment and try something new.</description>

I agree that to engage, we need to modify to suit the platform (the same with anything - take TV advertising during VOD as one example). Shorter, more varied questionnaires with a tangible reward (social, rather than monetary, as you cleverly noted recently) is the way to go</description>

But, on a more emotional level, I am just amazed that any company is having such problems any longer. Surely ALL companies are considering very carefully their response to the explosion of social media and the likely impact on their business. What better way to get up to speed than use the activities and habits of their existing teams to help them take the first steps forward. Or am I missing something?</description>
